Adelaide United winger Awer Mabil has secured a move to Danish Superliga champions FC Midtjylland, after negotiations for his transfer fee were finalised between the two clubs.

Mabil, who joined the Reds youth team in 2012, went on to make his full debut with the senior side in January 2013, following a number of impressive performances in the National Youth League.

The 19-year-old is expected to join the Danish outfit in a record transfer fee for an A-League player, reportedly surpassing the $1.3 million mark.

Midtjylland were crowned Superliga winners for the inaugural time in the club’s short history and are now in the second round of qualification for the impending UEFA Champions League season.

The Wolves had apparently been monitoring the youngster, after trialling with Dutch powerhouse Ajax at the beginning of the year and have now fulfilled Mabil’s desire to ply his trade in Europe.

Following his decision to leave Adelaide, Mabil expressed his appreciation to the club that showed immense faith in him as a young and inexperienced footballer.

“I would like to thank Adelaide United for allowing me to pursue my dream of playing in Europe for a very strong and ambitious club that sets high standards,” Mabil said.

“A big thank you to my coach Josep Gombau and the rest of the staff at Adelaide United for helping my development as a player and person.”

Despite signing for the Danish outfit, the former Campbelltown speedster is likely to play in the friendly match against English Premier League giants Liverpool at the Adelaide Oval tonight, which will be a fitting way to send off the fan favourite.

Adelaide United CEO Michael Petrillo praised Mabil’s determination to be successful, but stressed the talented wide-man will be sorely missed.

“It shows that if you have the passion and commitment you can forge a pathway through to the A-League with the Adelaide United Football Club and as in Awer’s case, Europe,” Petrillo said.

“I’m sure that he will be a great addition to their team and we will miss him but understand that his desire and dream was to play in Europe.”

Mabil will embark on his new journey to Denmark on Tuesday, subject to a medical.
