Liverpool’s big-money summer signing Sadio Mane has declared his fitness ahead of a crucial match at home to Leicester City on Saturday evening (UK time).
The £34m capture from Southampton has made an instant impact at Anfield and had to be substituted during Senegal’s 2-0 ACON qualifier victory against Namibia.
There were serious doubts surrounding his fitness, but the 24-year-old appears to be ready to play in Liverpool’s first home match of the season, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp made a phone call to the player on Sunday to enquire about his fitness and Mane alleviated his concerns immediately.
Mane has been the Reds’ standout player so far and will be a vital cog in Klopp’s starting XI for the game against the reigning Premier League champions.
However, the Senegalese star will miss a month of the season due to the African Cup of Nations after his country secured a sixth successive route to the finals.
The tournament will run between January 14 and February 5, which means Mane will not be able to take part against heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea in the league during this period.
#LFC will need to be prepared for losing their new star man for around a month of this season https://t.co/OOvZsy7hVd
