The Turin outfit is set to offer the Italian a bumper new contract worth €5 million per annum that will run until 2021, making the 29-year-old one of the highest earners at the club.

Juventus believe they can convince stalwart Leonardo Bonucci to extend his contract with the Italian champions and put an immediate end to any speculation linking him with a move away from the club with the offer of a contract worth €5 million per year, plus bonuses.

Both Manchester clubs were credited with holding a strong interest in the centre-back over the summer, with Pep Guardiola in particular having made him the Citizens’ chief defensive transfer target during the previous transfer window, reportedly offering the Italian a contract worth €8 million per annum.

Bonucci’s current contract with the Italian champions runs until 2020, however club CEO Beppe Marotta has already held provisional talks over the new contract with the 29-year-old’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, whom Juventus share a superb working relationship with.

Since arriving from Bari in 2010, Bonucci has won five Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia trophies, while also making it to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2015, where the Bianconeri lost out 3-1 to FC Barcelona.

The Inter Milan youth product was also a key component in an Italian side that impressed at Euro 2016 in France, playing every minute for the Azzurri as they made it to the quarter-finals before bowing out in a penalty-shootout against Germany.
