Adelaide United boss Josep Gombau says he wants next week’s home elimination final at Coopers Stadium instead of Adelaide Oval.

Speculation has recently suggested Adelaide Oval will host its inaugural A-League finals game with Friday or Saturday night the likely timeslot, given the Showdown between the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide takes place on Sunday.

Speaking after his side’s 4-1 demolition of Melbourne City, the Spaniard is desperate to play the match on the familiar turf of Hindmarsh Stadium, stating Adelaide Oval would be a disadvantage.

“Here. This is our stadium [Coopers],” Gombau said.

“This is our stadium, we played 13 or 14 games here. We are training here, we play at home and this is our advantage.

“I want to play here because this our home. We go to Adelaide Oval it is in Adelaide but it’s not our home because we don’t train there.

“If you go to a place you have been one time every year it is not your home.”

Gombau was also questioned about Bruce Djite’s lack of goals this season, but maintains he is not concerned that the striker has not scored since February 21.

“No he’s part of the team. Bruce [Djite] is doing a lot of work. People just see him as a striker and the need to score,” Gombau continued.

“It’s true, it’s one of his jobs but he’s doing a lot of jobs… but he’s recovering balls, he’s bringing other players into space.

“For me Djite is not just a goal scorer, for me Djite is player that tactically brings a lot to the team and I am satisfied with his job.”

The Reds will face either Brisbane Roar or Melbourne City in the elimination final, depending on the result between the Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC match on Sunday.
