As Brisbane Roar prepare for their final preseason friendly against A-League opposition, manager John Aloisi says his squad is much better prepared than this time last year.

Aloisi’s team will meet Perth Glory on Tuesday, with the former Socceroo having almost a full complement of players to choose from.

The Roar remain without latest signing Brett Holman who is still not training at full capacity, while Tommy Oar (groin) and Jamie Young (finger) are still battling minor injuries.

Heading into the friendly, Aloisi believes his side will be ready to hit the ground running when they host Melbourne Victory on 7 October, in the competition’s season opener.

“We’ve had a bit of turnover but the core group is still here,” Aloisi told the media.

“If I look back and see where we were last preseason to where we are, we feel we’re ahead.

“We’ve changed a little bit, the way we play, but not too much. I feel we’re a lot more fluent than where we were, this time last year, when we’ve got the ball and defensively, we’re ahead.

“It’s nice to see the progression of the group.”

Perth had the better of their Queensland opponents when the pair met in the FFA Cup’s round of 32, with the Glory claiming a 2-0 win.

Brisbane will conclude their 2016-17 season preparations with a match against an NPL Queensland select team before the A-League campaign begins.
