Made famous by club legend Archie Thompson, Melbourne Victory will have a new man wearing the No. 10 shirt in the 2016-17 season.

James Troisi has been handed the famous club jersey after Kevin Muscat opted not to re-sign the talismanic 37-year-old at the conclusion of last season and will wear the number for the first time against Hume City in the FFA Cup on Wednesday night.

Thompson scored 91 goals wearing the number in 224 Victory appearances, bowing out a club and A-League legend. A foundation player, no.10 has not been worn by any other player at Victory.

But in his second stint at the club, Troisi has been entrusted with no.10, shifting from his previous no.14.

The Socceroo quickly became a fan favourite at AAMI Park under Ange Postecoglou and then current boss Muscat during the 2013-14 campaign, scoring 12 goals in 29 games on loan from Serie A giants Juventus.

Thompson will be there to officially hand over the shirt to Troisi on Victory’s official preseason open day.
