Australian midfielder James Holland is set to return to the A-League, and link up with reigning champions Adelaide United according to reports.

Reports from the Adelaide Advertiser claim that Holland is set to sign a two-year deal with the Reds when he arrives home in Australia.

Fox Sports’ Daniel Garb believes the midfielder is on his way back to Australia, and will sign a deal when he lands.

The Reds general manager of football Ante Kovacevic says talks between the two parties had progressed well, and the A-League club are awaiting the final decision from Holland.

“There is no deadline, no pressure from us on James Holland,’’ Kovacevic told the Adelaide Advertiser.

“But we also fully understand that coming back to Australia from Europe, is a big move for him and now we’ll just wait and see.”

If Holland does sign with Adelaide it will be the first time he has featured in Australia, since leaving the Newcastle Jets in 2009 to join Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

Adelaide are desperate to add to their midfield stocks before the start of the season with Marcelo Carrusca unlikely to be fit for the club’s opening match away to Newcastle Jets on October 9.

Kovacevic also confirmed the club was on the lookout for a defender following a season-ending knee injury to Jordan Elsey last week.
