Socceroos defender Jackson Irvine believes he is ready to become a regular fixture in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.

Speaking exclusively on Monday’s Daily Football Show, Irvine said he is ready to become an Australia mainstay.

“Nothing has really changed for me since the camp against England and Greece in the summer,” he said.

“Yes, I’ve made a transition, I’ve made a step-up in club football. This midfield is incredibly difficult to get into, and for me, priority number one is to maintain my spot here.

“If that means I can contribute on the pitch, then I’m more than ready for that.

“If called upon, I feel I’m ready to play a part, but I recognise how difficult that is with the talent we have in this squad and particularly in the middle of the park. I want to be a regular.

Burton Albion’s record signing has strung together some impressive form in the Championship, scoring three times in four games from defence and tying down a starting berth.

With four appearances for the national team under his belt, Irvine has been called back into the squad and, for the first time in his career, will suit up for the Socceroos two camps in a row.

“This is the first time I’ve been called into consecutive camps. I’ve had to be patient, in and out of squads,” he said.

“I just want to become a regular. That’s priority number one.”

The next phase of World Cup qualifying kicks off on Thursday night as the Socceroos host Iraq at Perth’s nib Stadium.
