Francesco Totti has spoken to the media for the first time in Melbourne ahead of AS Roma’s opening International Champions Cup match against Real Madrid tomorrow night.

The Italian legend, who is entering his 24th year with the club, shared his thoughts on ‘that’ winning penalty of the 2006 World Cup knockout stages against Australia –  of which Socceroos fans have very bad memories of.

“We remember that famous World Cup game,” he said.

“It’s a nice memory. It’s football , that’s life. Thank God I scored.”

The 38-year-old was pleased to be in the country for the first time and was looking forward to taking part in the ICC, the second year in a row Roma have participated in the event.

“It’s a very nice experience to be here for the first time,” he said.

“We’ve only seen the training facilities so far and haven’t had any free time. But it’s a nice city and I enjoy it very much. I wish it were closer!”

Reports continue to link Manchester City forward Eden Dzeko with the club and ironically the two clubs will meet each other on Tuesday night, with Totti tightly lipped on his potential arrival.

“It’s not down to me to convince him [Dzeko). Miralem Pjanić knows him very well and has said nice things about Roma,” he said.

“I’m sure that should he come to AS Roma he can certainly help us. He is a world class player and has a very good eye for goal.”

Totti also spoke about young Australian product Daniel De Silva saying he has “great potential and nose for goal,” while he was quite saddened to play a Real Madrid side without Iker Casillas.

“It is very special to play Real Madrid. It was very sad to see him [Casillas] go. He is not only a great player but a great person,” he said.

“It is never a friendly game against such a big club.”

AS Roma take on Real Madrid tomorrow night. Kickoff 7:45pm from the MCG.
