A pivotal weekend of Premier League action was capped-off with Tottenham’s 2-1 win over fellow title contenders Manchester City earlier this morning.
The Spurs climbed into third place on the table, after a Christian Eriksen goal in the 83rd minute was enough to separate the two sides in a cagey encounter.
Nobody wanted to give up ground and while there were good chances at either end, no breakthrough could be found in the first 45 minutes.

It would indeed take a moment of contention to really bring the game to life, when Raheem Sterling was judged to have handled the ball inside the box soon after the the restart. Harry Kane would calmly put the resulting penalty past his fellow Englishman Joe Hart to give Tottenham the advantage.
Needing some variation in front of goal, Manuel Pellegrini introduced Kelechi Iheanacho following the hour-mark and the youngster restored parity with a close-range finish less than 10 minutes later. There was a sense in the late stages that something at either end would have to give though, and Eriksen was able to snatch Tottenham an invaluable three points at the death which may have sealed a top-four finish for the North Londoners.

Another poor decision from Mark Clattenburg. Another good result for Pep Guardiola. #MCFC #THFC

Pellegrini disappointed. Batters the referee. Doesn't feel like he's going out as champions of England. Another footnote in @MCFC history

Shambles that. No where near over but the next few weeks will define our season.
Btw, Yaya is an impact player now. Not a starter. #MCFC

Again I continue to doubt the motivation of a coach who knows he is already replaced…two defeats in a row for Man City!!!

Genuinely gutted. After the penalty we looked like us for the first time in months. There was a tempo and zip to our passing. #Mcfc
