Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s European dream is still alive, as they advanced to the Europa League round of 16, following a 1-0 victory at home to Augsburg.
Liverpool dominated proceedings in the first half and will have felt aggrieved not to be at least two goals to the good at half-time.
The home side took the lead after just five minutes when Dominik Kohr carelessly handled the ball in the box.
James Milner took the responsibility from the penalty spot and converted with great conviction to give Liverpool an advantage in the tie.
In the second half the Reds had a host of clear-cut opportunities – notably Jordan Henderson from point-blank range – to put the tie to bed but they lacked a clinical touch.
The visitors provided some nervy moments for the hosts in the final stages of the match, but couldn’t find a decisive goal as Liverpool edged themselves to the last 16.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter:
FT: #LFC 1 Augsburg 0: Relief all around Anfield as Reds progress into last 16 of the Europa League. They made painfully hard work of that

Get in!! Decent performance not clinical enough tho. No injuries is huge & we’re through. Bring on Sunday!! #LFC

Only positive from that game is progress to next round.#LFC made hard work of a below average German team. Lots more to do.

After conceding 19 goals in 12 games in 2016, Liverpool have now kept three clean sheets in a row. #LFC pic.twitter.com/KatN3VHkW5

That’ll do. Seven games between Liverpool and Champions League qualification. They might only have to win three of them. #LFC #EuropaLeague

Just to mention. Mignolet was good. Done all he was asked well. Clean sheet #LFC

Well, dead lucky going through there and we are definitely not winning this competition. Kinda pointless going through really. #LFC

Poor stuff, very unconvincing. Lucky to get a penalty otherwise wouldn’t have scored all night, toothless? #LFC

Great game except productivity, Lucas, Can impressing … Milner and Origi too but whole team played really good. #lfc

Typical of Liverpool to not take their chances and get by on a penalty call. On to the next round most important. Wembley Sunday!! #LFC

Sick and tired of watching our midfield play like schoolboys when seeing out a game, no leader on the pitch when needed! #LFC #Hoofers

We should be destroying our opponents at Anfield but that hasn’t been the story this season. #LFC

#LFC none of the midfield can deliver a final ‘killer’ ball, not even a ball that makes the oppo a little queasy, or even a bit worried

Last 16 achieved. Hard fought win but rather wasteful for #LFC. Need to be more clinical but through nevertheless. Time for improvement.

Made hard work of that game. Our finishing needs much improvement… Could have had 3-4 and been clear!! Roll on Wembley this Sunday ⚽ #LFC

1-0, through to the last 16 for the first time in 5 years. Good going forward but need better finishing. Looking forward to Sunday. #LFC

Sturridge went off really unhappy, did you see him at the end after a bit of Klopp time, all smiles #LFC

Thought Emre Can bossed the midfield today. I know some don’t like him but, for his age, he could truly be a class midfielder #LFC
