Germany re-established themselves as Euro 2016 favourites with a 3-0 win against Slovakia in Lille.

The reigning world champions made a perfect start, taking the lead through Jerome Boateng’s spectacular volley after just eight minutes. Jogi Low’s side should have doubled their advantage just minutes later after winning a penalty for a foul on Mario Gomez, but Mesut Ozil saw his tame effort saved by Matus Kozacik.

A second goal would eventually come for the Germans just before the half-time break, thanks to a blistering run by Julian Draxler. The Wolfsburg man drove past his defender and to the goal-line, producing an inch-perfect delivery to Mario Gomez at the near post for the finish.

Draxler would then find himself on the scoresheet in the second half, volleying home from inside the area after being left free by the Slovak defence following a corner. The Slovakian side offered very little resistance for die Mannschaft, who march into the quarter-finals for a mouth-watering clash against Italy or Spain.
