Week two of the A-league has come and gone. With it came some mixed emotions, uneventful patches, comebacks and controversy.

Villain of the Week

Ben Kantarovski is a good, fair player, but his challenge on Chris Naumoff sent chills down the spine.
One has to question why Kantarovski flew into the challenge the way he did. It was callous, stupid and some may even say disrespectful; the player was lucky to still be on the pitch. The tackle could easily have broken Naumoff’s ankles and we could be talking about him not playing football for some time, or at the very worst, ever again.

Hero of the Week

The scenes we saw on the weekend were as hard to stomach as the most gruesome of events. Mark Birighitti is an incredibly talented goalkeeper who always puts his body on the line and this was no exception as he copped a boot to the face from Sydney striker Shane Smeltz. A-League fans around the country wish him all the best ahead of his recover and we certainly hope to see him back between the posts sooner rather than later.
