After collecting Man of the Match honours for his starring display against Germany, Antoine Griezmann has spoken of his side’s “duty” to reward the French people by going all the way in Euro 2016.

The Atletico Madrid forward struck his brace either side of the interval, pivotal moments in the match which completely took the sting out of Germany, setting up Sunday’s final against Portugal.

Griezmann was the catalyst for his side’s win, completely turning the match in France’s favour with his penalty opener after Germany controlled much of the first-half for no reward. His goal 25 minutes after the interval then finally shattered the hopes of the Germans, with Manuel Neuer’s uncharacteristic mistake punished by Griezmann.

“We’re going to enjoy tonight but as of tomorrow we’re going to recover for the final. We’re delighted,” he said.

“I am very proud. There is still one match to go to really finish with a flourish, It is going to be tricky.”

“It is our duty to win these matches and entertain the French people – ultimately to go all the way in this competition.”

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Despite missing a crucial penalty for Atletico a little over a month ago in May’s Champions League final, Griezmann said he had no qualms about stepping up to the plate on the big stage.

“No I really wanted to take a penalty in another important match. I am pleased to have made the decision and scored.”

“As for the second goal I was just lurking for a mistake from the goalkeeper and it dropped at my feet. I was delighted.”
