One player who’s made an instant impact since he arrived at White Hart Lane is young midfielder Dele Alli.

The 20-year-old was signed for a fee in the region of £5 from Charlton Athletic in early February last year and is now widely considered a genuine bargain.

With 10 goals and nine assists in his maiden Premier League campaign, former Tottenham Hotspur captain Ledley King, who spoke at the official launch of the International Champions Cup Australia presented by Audi, believes he’s put himself in the frame for an England starting spot at Euro 2016.

“I think he’s shown that nothing fazes him and that he could fit in a starting central midfield role,” King told Outside90.com.

“He’s been tremendous for England in each game he’s played and scored a fantastic goal at Wembley against France and seems to be growing in confidence.”

“If he continues to play the same way he’s been playing four games of the season then he’s really going to be in with a chance of starting or at least making a very tough decision for the manager.”

“Regardless of whether he starts or not I still think he’s got a big part to play in the tournament.”

Most media pundits and fans expected Alli to ease his way into regular first team calculations and even King didn’t expect such a rapid rise from the Milton Keynes born starlet.

“I must admit I am a little bit surprised at how quickly he’s adapted to Premier League football,” he said.

“For a young player to come into a team playing against established players every week is a fantastic achievement.”

However, the former centre-back and club ambassador does admit that after conversations with Alli he can see why he’s got such a bright future ahead of him.

“Having got to know him a bit you can see why he’s getting the best out of himself with his drive and determination,” King said.

“Now I know him and understand his personality then perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised in hindsight!”
