Chelsea’s miserable run continued as a Steven Naismith hat-trick put them to the sword at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Everton

Tim Howard – 6: Caught off his line by Matic, though nothing should be taken away from the quality of the strike. Dealt with much of what came his way.

Seamus Coleman – 6: Chelsea often attacked his flank, though he stood up well before pulling up awkwardly late and being withdrawn.

Phil Jagielka – 7.5: Made a goalsaving tackle on Diego Costa with 69 minutes played.

John Stones – 8: Showed why Chelsea were desperate to sign him. Oozed confidence and poise, earmarked by a crucial block to deny Azpilicueta on 25 minutes.

Brendan Galloway – 7.5: Provided a delicious cross that was headed home by Naismith. A yellow card for a poor challenge on Pedro took some of the shine of an solid performance.

Mo Besic – N/A: Succumbed to injury after eight minutes.

James McCarthy – 7: In the thick of much of the play and resolute in the middle of the park alongside Barry.

Gareth Barry – 7.5: Enforced the midfield expertly.

Ross Barkley – 7.5: Heavily involved in the action, though tended to dwell on position for too long. Played a brilliant ball to slip in Naismith for a third.

Arouna Kone – 7: Involved in the game and saw a header saved brilliantly by Begovic early on.

Romelu Lukaku – 6.5: Was not presented with a great deal of opportunity but Naismith claimed the goalscoring responsibilities.

Substitutes

Steven Naismith – 10: Replaced Besic early and changed the complexity of the match. Went on to score a hat-trick.

Aaron Lennon – N/A: Introduced late on.

Ramiro Funes Mori – N/A: Made a cameo appearance at right-back and held his own in the time he was on the field.

Chelsea

Asmir Begovic – 6: Made two crucial saves within the space of a minute after Everton took the lead. Could not do too much about either goal.

Branislav Ivanovic – 4.5: Everton’s opening goal came down his side and followed up by leaving Naismith with too much room to score a second.

Kurt Zouma – 5.5: Missed only one pass but looked at sea, as did his partner Terry.

John Terry – 4.5: All over the place early days.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6.5: Offered an extra dimension going forward and forced a super block from Stones.

Nemanja Matic – 7: Did his part to give Chelsea hope with a screamer on 35 minutes.

Pedro – 4.5: Allowed Galloway to escape and deliver for Naismith who took his chance. Substituted thereafter.

John Obi Mikel – 5: Passed well and can claim an assist in his 55 minutes on the field, but was loose defensively.

Eden Hazard – 5: Saw plenty of the ball but was not threatening.

Cesc Fabregas – 5.5: Passed well but created little of note.

Diego Costa – 4: Looked toothless.

Substitutes

Kenedy – 5.5: Tried to get involved but could not materialise any influence.

Willian – N/A: Mourinho’s final change did not make an impact.

Radamel Falcao – N/A: Involved almost straight away in a counter-attack that fizzled out. Quiet after that.
