Euro 2016’s ‘Battle of Britain’ did not fail to deliver, as a last minute Daniel Sturridge goal saw England overcome Wales 2-1.
The explosive atmosphere that accompanied the Group B clash was replicated from the opening whistle on the field, and Roy Hodgson’s squad found out immediately that they would not be in for an easy outing against their Isle neighbours.
It was the Dragons who would take the advantage of this intense environment, and it was Gareth Bale in typical fashion that opened the scoring and gave Chris Coleman’s men a dream 1-0 lead, with the Real Madrid forward’s 40-yard free-kick getting the best of Joe Hart at the near-post.
Their backs clearly against the wall, Roy Hodgson would make two vital changes to his setup at halftime, introducing Jamie Vardy and Sturridge into the fray. The man who has stolen Premier League headlines throughout 2015-16 would make a near-immediate impact, equalising for England just before the hour-mark, while Liverpool’s hitman would break Welsh hearts moments before full time with a close-range finish.
