Real Madrid have been steamrolled by the in-form Barcelona 4-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernebau on Saturday evening.
It was advertised as one of the most important and close clashes of the season but unfortunately for Real Madrid, it was anything but the latter.
A lack of drive and focus combined to allow the Catalan giants to cut the Real midfield and defence like butter. Yes, that’s right, with utter ease.
It took the visitors only 11 minutes to take the lead with Uruguayan Luis Suarez striking past the reach of Keylor Navas.
Barca doubled their lead six minutes before half time with Neymar striking the ball under the Costa Rican goalkeeper.
Madrid were keen to prove themselves in the second term and made an immediate attack. While the build-ups were thorough, the finishes were not and the visitors were able to break on the counter.
Captain Andres Iniesta added a third to the scoreline with a superb strike from distance. Yet it was Suarez who sealed the victory for the Catalans and with a precise clip in.
While the result was impressive the score could have been higher. Nevertheless, Barcelona sit six points clear of Los Galacticos atop La Liga. Real, it looks like it’s back to the drawing board.
