Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes Jack Wilshere’s season-long loan will be the key to kick-starting his career and the clubs season.

Having sealed a deal for the 24-year-old on deadline day, his new boss is confident the Englishman has already made a significant difference to the squad.

“It has given other players a lift,” Howe said.

“The level of training has gone up because he is here but ultimately our players are going to enjoy playing with him.”

Howe went on to add that it was a brave decision in what was a watershed moment for the club to attract this calibre of player to the south coast club.

“Hopefully when he looks back in a year’s time, he will see it as a turning point in his career for the better,” he said.

The surprising decision is a change from the usual recruitment strategies employed by Bournemouth, as the club took advantage of a unique opportunity.

“If you had said to me (a few years ago) that we would have the opportunity to sign someone like Jack I would have said it is not possible,” he said.

“It is a different path for us, there are risks attached to that but there are also huge benefits if it goes well.”

Wilshere is expected to make his competitive debut for Bournemouth against West Bromwich Albion on the weekend.
