New Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin says his choice to join the club was a “no-brainer”, pointing to fellow youngster Mason Holgate’s success as inspiration.
Everton secured Calvert-Lewin on deadline day, signing the 19-year-old from Sheffield United in a deal believed to be worth £1.5 million.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Manchester United also courted the forward, who will initially link up with Everton’s under-23 squad.
“It was a no-brainer for me, you’ve only got to look at the chance that’s given to youth here,” he told evertontv.

“The players that are in there now, you’ve got Mason Holgate in there at the moment, that’s something that appeals to me as a 19-year-old player.
“You can’t ask for more than that really.
“Obviously your hard work pays off, and I’m just looking for a chance to show what I can do.”
Calvert-Lewin recently debuted for England’s under-20s side against Brazil, scoring off the bench with a header.
Ironically, the call-up came the same day as his move to Merseyside.
“It was unexpected, the England call-up,” he added.
“It was a pretty good day.”
