Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome was all smiles following the FFA’s decision to renew the franchise’s license for another 10-years.

Speaking on today’s edition of the Daily Football Show, Dome iterated the weight that now had been lifted off the New Zealand-based outfit, which can now once again start looking toward the future.

“Everyone was working really hard to get the licence situation resolved, finally [we’ve] got it done and we are just really excited about moving on and being part of the A-League.”

After months of negotiations, Dome explained that the club is very satisfied with the outcomes and comfortable that targets set by the FFA surrounding broadcasting deals and memberships are achievable in the long-term.

“If we want this club to be successful we need to be at these kind of levels anyway and if we’re not at these levels then why are we bothering?”

“When we worked through it with FFA we said look, we’re actually comfortable with it, that means we are contributing to the A-League in the way we should be.

“We wouldn’t have signed up if we didn’t think we could do it,” said Dome.

A cause which united A-League supporters from two countries, special mention had to be given to the driving force which was the ‘#SavetheNix’ campaign.

“The whole time the fans were fantastic, they were always positive,” said Dome.

“All the clubs did something…[it was] really humbling and I think that is the power of football.”

With this tumultuous journey now traversed, the Phoenix’s focus can turn back to growing the club and the run toward the 2015-16 A-League finals.

“It takes any lingering doubt off the table…it now helps us bring on commercial partners which again helps with the financial security of the club,” said Dome

“We’re going to go hard until the end of the season now and see if we can sneak into finals.”
