David Carney says Sydney FC’s front line is still yet to gel.

The Sky Blues have suffered something of a downturn in form in the past month, going winless in four matches, scoring as many goals.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Football Show ahead of Saturday night’s Sydney Derby, the recently returned Sky Blue favourite says the attacking third he is slotting into has some way to go before firing on all cylinders.

“I think with the derby coming up, if we can get a win there, hopefully we can kick on because we’ve not really played with the front four as yet with (Filip) Holosko and (Milos) Ninkovic and Brosque,” Carney said.

“Brosquey’s been out, in training, we’re just getting used to each other’s game.

“I played with Brosquey with the national team as well so I know his game, and Ninkovic, me and him have just worked.

“Holosko was injured last week for my first game. He just gives me that extra target and height as well, then we’ve got Matty Simon and Smeltzy … they’re both established A-League players and very good players as well.

“There’s a good squad here but we’ve got to do a lot better than we did last week, but I’m sure we will.”

Carney added that the Sky Blues are at an important juncture in their campaign, saying they needed to find a late jump-starter to their stuttering fortunes.

“We need to get back to get back to kick-starting the season again because we’ve not had too many good results of late.”

“Hopefully we (attackers) can combine well and finish the season strong.”
