Damien De Bohun declares Newcastle Jets sale is imminent

A-League chief Damien De Bohun has ruled that a sale of the Newcastle Jets is “imminent” after recent negotiations over a sale suffered a late collapse.

Chinese lighting magnate Martin Lee was reportedly ready to secure the Jets licence according to James Gardiner of the Herald, but the deal fell over supposedly due to the disputed cost of the sale. Reports suggest FFA sought more than the $5 million that was tabled by Mr Lee.

But a sale, De Bohun exclusively told the Daily Football Show, remains on the cards and is imminent, with a number of parties still interested in acquiring the Hunter club’s licence.

“The discussions over Newcastle are advancing very well, we are confident we’re moving in the right direction,” De Bohun said.

“There’s three or four parties still involved in discussions, but what’s important to me is that that’s resolved prior to me finishing (as head of the league) in a couple of months.

“It is imminent, but it’s not resolved.

“We’re still working through the finer details with a number of groups, but it’s shaping well.”

The Jets have been under FFA ownership since Nathan Tinkler was stripped of the licence in May 2015.
