Inter Milan have signed Brazilian attacker Gabriel Barbosa from Santos, after making an official announcement on their website, with the fee believed to be €28 million.

Metro.co.uk have reported that Manchester United and Chelsea were both heavily linked after reported interest in signing Brazilian forward, but a move to Milan was his preferred destination.

Nicknamed ‘Gabigol’, Barbosa is the latest in a long line of high-profile signings under new manager Frank De Boer, after the arrivals of Joao Mario, Antonio Candreva and Ever Banega earlier this window.

The Brazilian scored 56 goals in 153 appearances for Santos, winning the league title the past two seasons, and was part of the Olympic gold medal winning team in Rio De Janeiro.

Barbosa has been capped four times at international level, scoring twice.

Inter have suffered a poor start to the Serie A campaign, winless after two games and only picking up a solitary point. De Boer’s side lost 2-0 on the opening day away to Chievo, before only managing a 1-1 draw against Palermo at the San Siro.
