Struggling English champions Chelsea could be tempted into selling star forward Eden Hazard to Spanish giants Real Madrid, in order to fund a summer spending spree.

Los Blancos are believed to be keen admirers of the Belgian international and are reportedly lining up a substantial summer bid.

The 25-year-old playmaker guided the London club to a first Premier League title in five years last season and also won the 2014-15 PFA Player of the Year award, capping-off a remarkable campaign.

But he has struggled for form this time around, scoring just two goals in all competitions and is yet to open his Premier League account in 23 league games.

According to Express.co.uk, Chelsea have set an €80 million asking price for Hazard’s signature, with Real expected to agree on the transfer fee.

Los Merengues are desperate to strengthen their side before an imminent FIFA transfer ban stretching two windows is imposed.

The ruling was handed to the La Liga powerhouse, as well as cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid, over breaches relating to the recruitment of players under 18 – identical to the ban given to Barcelona in 2014.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will apparently use the potential money from the Hazard sale to help acquire his new manager’s targets, when interim boss Guus Hiddink departs Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Intense speculation has linked current Italy coach Antonio Conte with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks once Euro 2016 concludes.

Hazard has netted a total of 51 goals in 197 appearances for the Blues since moving from French outfit Lille in 2012.
