Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso has revealed he rejected a move to Sunderland AFC on deadline day.

Carrasso, 34, told Telefoot, Sunderland wanted to sign him in the final stages of deadline day, but rejected the opportunity to move to the Premier League club.

“Yes, at the last second,”Carrasso said.

“But it was not the right time; I have just returned from injury and there were other things to do,” he added.

Following the long-term injury acquired by Vito Mannone, Sunderland boss David Moyes’ attempts to bring in an experienced goalkeeper were fruitless ventures.

Sunderland turned their attention to the Carrasco after failing to sign experienced Norwich City shot stopper, John Ruddy.

The addition of Carrasso would have followed signings of Didier Ndong, Papy Djilobjodi, Steven Pienaar and Adnan Januzaj, while former Everton striker Victor Anichebe arrived in recent days as a free agent.

After failing to sign a keeper and with Mannone sidelined for three months, 22-year-old goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has seen his game-time increase.

Sunderland face Everton at the Stadium of Light this weekend, and will be looking to secure a maiden win for the 2016-17 campaign.
