The Newcastle Jets have signed 20-year-old midfielder Devante Clut on a two-year deal.

Brisbane Roar announced earlier today that it had agreed to the midfielder’s request to end his contract early, which was quickly followed by the news he would be heading to Hunter Stadium.

Scott Miller describes Clut as an example of the talent that will revitalise the Jets in the new season, after a disappointing 2015-16 saw them far outside of finals contention.

“Devante typifies the type of young player that I want to attract to the club,” said his new coach to the Newcastle Herald.

“His commitment to the Jets is for two seasons, and that is significant as his aim is to become an important part of the club in the near future.”

Clut came off the bench in eight games under John Aloisi this season, having risen up through the Roar’s youth ranks and also recording three caps for the Australian under-20 side.

“[The] Roar was my first ever professional club, and I have a lot of good memories with the fans in Brisbane,” he said.

“But now it is time for me to learn and develop at the Jets, and aim to play and perform for the fans of Newcastle.

“I have a lot of room for improvement as a professional player, but my style of football is not to kick the ball long, but to control the game and play as big a role as I can in the action of each match.
