Brisbane Roar have today announced the signing of former Socceroo Brett Holman in what looms as a massive boost for the embattled club.

The 32-year-old has been on the lookout for an A-League contract over the past few months and it was believed that the attacking midfielder had priced himself out from clubs vying for his signature. He joins Thomas Kristensen, Joey Katabian and Jacob Pepper as Roar’s offseason signings.

He was previously linked with Melbourne Victory in July, neither confirmed or denied by coach Kevin Muscat on Melbourne radio station SEN 1116.

Holman signed for then Premier League side Aston Villa in 2012 but the move did not work out for the Bankstown product, moving onto the UAE Arabian Gulf league where he represented Al Nasr and Emirates Club.

He has  has represented the Socceroos 63 times, including at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where he was one of Australia’s most highly rated performers.

Brisbane Roar open the A-League season against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium on October 7th.
