Adelaide United are set to sign Blacktown City attacker Danny Choi ahead of the 2016-17 season.

The striker, who sensationally scored a 70-metre screamer against Sydney United in the FFA Cup, is on the verge of signing for the Reds as an injury-replacement player, according to Fox Sports’ Daniel Garb.

The 21-year-old Korean-born striker has caught the attention of numerous A-League clubs. Choi revealed last week in an interview with FourFourTwo that negotiations with Adelaide were underway, but at the time he was yet to obtain a passport.

With Jordan Elsey’s season ending after sustaining an ACL injury, Choi can sign for the South Australians on a temporary basis.

The Reds have already welcomed Henrique, Sergi Guardiola and Marc Marino among seven new transfers for the reigning champions, after key names such as Craig Goodwin, Bruce Kamau and Pablo Sanchez left during the transfer window.

Adelaide opens their A-League campaign with a home clash against Newcastle on October 9.
