After a stuttering start this Melbourne Derby exploded into life with three goals in nine minutes midway through the first-half and it didn’t let up until the final whistle with controversy taking over in the latter stages.

Outside90’s Luke Sale gives his take on the three best individual performances to come out of the game.

Bruno Fornaroli

Is this man on his way to becoming the A-League’s best ever import? The Uruguayan could not be touched throughout the first-half while adding his 16th and 17th goals of the season with a rabona and delightful chip to complement a wonderful showing. He may have faded in the second-half, but his ever-productive first 45 minutes meant this freed up space for City’s other attackers after the break.

Aaron Mooy

The midfielder of the Mooy-Fornaroli Show that has lit up this season for Melbourne City played a starring role again, laying on both of his sidekick’s goals in another all-action performance. The Socceroo is the best form of his career and will surely be near the top of the Player of the Year rankings come the end of the campaign.

Gui Finkler

In the build up to this match, many were comparing the front four of each side and tipping this facet of the Derby to decide it. With Mooy and Fornaroli on fire at the opposite end, Victory’s own South American lifted when his side needed it most and on another day would’ve provided a stunning dead-ball winner. His first goal won’t go be remembered as famously as many of previous strikes in the Big V but drawing level so early in the second half set up the Victory to finish the match the stronger.
