Socceroos defender Bailey Wright played the entire 120 minutes as Championship outfit Preston North End produced a superb come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Bournemouth in the EFL Cup.

Preston striker Simon Makienok was the hero of the day, netting a hat-trick including a late equaliser and the subsequent winning goal.

Wright, 24, returned to the starting XI after an injury lay-off, and helped get his side back to winning ways, after Preston conceded four goals in 13 minutes against Brentford on Saturday, losing 5-0.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe made 11 changes to the side that lost 4-0 to Manchester City, including Australians Brad Smith and Adam Federici. Despite a weakened squad, the home contingent were visibly disappointed with the nature of the loss.

Makeniok opened the scoring for the visitors after 10 minutes, but were pegged back by Lewis Grabban and Dan Gosling. The Premier League side looked set for a third round victory but were pegged back on 85 minutes, again by Makeniok to force the contest to extra time, before the Danish striker broke the Cherries hearts with a 111st minute winner.
