Perth Glory full-back Josh Risdon has been included in the Socceroos squad ahead of upcoming qualifiers against Iraq and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The 24-year-old’s inclusion comes at the expense of Bailey Wright, who has suffered a toe injury and subsequently withdrawn. Risdon joins the squad this afternoon ahead of the Socceroos match against Iraq on Thursday night at NIB Stadium, with the UAE clash falling on the following Tuesday, September 6.

Postecoglou clarified the circumstances surrounding Wright’s withdrawal from the squad, and re-iterated his faith in Risdon.

“Bailey has a minor injury that he has been nursing and although he played for Preston overnight we thought it better for him to stay in the UK,” Postecoglou said.

“We have two tough matches in quick succession and will need everyone ready to go.

“Josh Risdon has come into the group recently and equipped himself well and I have no doubt that he will do a job if required over the next two matches.”

Risdon made his Socceroos debut against Bangladesh on November 17, 2015, and has been capped three times for his country.
