Juventus manager Massimo Allegri believes his side have silenced their critics after an impressive 4-0 win against Cagliari, a result which saw Juve climb to the top of the table.

Allegri’s men drew heavy criticism following their 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan on the weekend and the 49-year-old says his side bounced back in the best possible way.

“I was satisfied to get back on top of the table and we did well,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia following the match.

“The lads took the right approach, though perhaps when 2-0 up we should’ve controlled the tempo, and instead we poured forward looking for a third goal with a little too much haste.

“Still, it’s a good answer to the rather excessive criticism of our performance on Sunday against Inter.”

He was quick to defend summer signing Miralem Pjanic’s role in the team after he dew criticism in recent weeks.

“It takes a little time, let’s not try to pretend Miralem Pjanic can just replace Paul Pogba, as they are two completely different players with different characteristics and physicality.

“Pjanic missed the first two games and can do very well as an old-fashioned Number 10,” he added.

Despite captain Gigi Buffon being substituted at half-time Allegri claimed the move was only made as a precaution after the veteran picked up a knock.

“(It’s) just a knock, nothing serious. I don’t care if people say Juventus are strong or not strong.

“I am interested in getting to the end and winning the Scudetto.”
