Adelaide United forward Craig Goodwin has returned to training after suffering concussion during the Reds’ 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory on Friday.

Goodwin, 24, sustained a sickening blow to the head following a collision with Victory’s Daniel Georgievski in the 90th minute, leaving a visible lump on the left side of his skull.

Consequently, the winger has been restricted to light duties at training and is currently obeying a concussion policy called the Return to Play Program stipulated by Football Federation Australian.

Goodwin will need to prove his fitness by Thursday if he is to be included in the matchday squad against Brisbane Roar at Coopers Stadium on Saturday.

Adelaide’s General Manager of Football Ante Kovacevic said the club will continue to monitor the former Newcastle Jets man and will not rush is comeback.

“The medical staff are reasonably pleased with Craig’s progress but we need to make sure that he is fit and ready by the standards set out by the FFA.” Kovacevic said.

“It was a very tough blow – enough to make the doctors take him to hospital and monitor him very closely, but he’s a tough player.

“We will take each day as it comes before making a decision on whether he will play on the weekend.”
