Adelaide United boss Guillermo Amor says he is content with his side’s performance, after an entertaining 2-2 draw with Sydney FC at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Sergio Cirio twice put the hosts ahead in the first half, but parity was swiftly restored on both occasions thanks to goals from Sky Blues’ pair Matt Simon and Filip Holosko.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Amor admitted he was satisfied to take a point from the game, given the number of personnel changes made by the Barca legend.

“I’d prefer to win, but after the game and analysis and different things it’s not bad,” Amor said.

“I think the other team [Sydney FC] is a very good team, they played very well, is a strong team and the game was difficult.”

Amor explained why Craig Goodwin was omitted from the matchday squad claiming he was “sore” and therefore rested in preparation for the AFC Champions League play-off match with Shandon Luneng on Tuesday.

Amor was pleased with Cirio’s contribution following his full return from injury and given he has been less productive from a goalscoring perspective, in comparison to previous seasons.

“He’s good, Sergio is now happy. He has dealt with his problem and played a minute last week, but he’s happy now,” Amor continued.

“Obviously he needed to play to spend some time on the field to recover and that’s what he needed and obviously he’s been working.”

The Spanish tactician also labelled his side’s 10-match unbeaten run as “fantastic”, but admitted it is difficult to ask more from his players when they are working tirelessly.

“The group is in a fantastic moment it’s always positive, the group is strong. This mentality is very positive now and the group is in a good space and to face anything that is coming.”

“The squad has such a positive attitude, they’re always giving a 100 per cent that it’s difficult to ask them for more at times.”

Adelaide have a short turnaround to prepare for their ACL meeting with Shandong before travelling to Gosford to face the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday.
