Huddersfield Town rescued a point away to Aston Villa this morning to retain their unbeaten run in the Championship.

The Terriers fell behind to a Ross McCormack goal on 26 minutes, only to rally late and find a fortuitous equaliser when goalkeeper Peirluigi Gollini’s clearing ball struck an onrushing Michael Hefele to find the back of the net. An invaluable point means Huddersfield sit third on the table with seven points.

The form of Aaron Mooy has been discussed at length, and again he played an important role in his third successive start and subsequent 90 minutes.

After Aston Villa had the better of the game in the first half, Mooy helped the visitors gain control in the second period.

Mooy’s calmness and passing range saw Huddersfield end with 60% possession and a deserved point. Astonishingly, Huddersfield had 558 touches against Villa – the highest under manager David Wagner – and Mooy had 102 himself.

The Socceroos midfielder’s next assignment will be at home to Barnsley on Saturday and provides a great opportunity for the side to edge into the top two after four rounds.
