Adelaide United proved too good on the night as they progressed past a disappointing City side.

Here are three players who crumbled under the pressure of the occasion.

Paulo Retre (Melbourne City) – After a good performance last week, Retre held his place for this semi-final but he could not back it up. Sergio Cirio continued to run at Retre throughout the game and he really had no answer. He was drawn into a foul which earned him a yellow card and this played on his mind as he failed to make any sort of an impact as he looked frightened to make a challenge.

Bruno Fornaroli (Melbourne City) – After such an inspiring performance last week, a lot of expectation was on the Uruguayan to again produce the goods. The league’s top scorer was kept very quiet throughout the match and he looked to be off the pace of the game. His touch was not up to his usual standard as he struggled to cause the Reds back four too many problems. His decision-making at some crucial moments was also lacking which was very uncharacteristic from the man who has taken the A-League by storm this season.

Craig Goodwin (Adelaide United) – Goodwin has been an influential player this season for Adelaide and he himself has helped them out of a pickle on many a time throughout the campaign, but unfortunately, on the night, he did not deliver. He did have one moment in which he made a tremendous run forward but in the end was unable to keep his shot down as it whistled over the crossbar. His touch at times let him down and his passing game was not at its best. Maybe a bit harsh to list him in the bottom three performers but given what he is capable of, the Reds will be calling for more from him next week.
