Adelaide United are still winless in season 2015-16 after going down 2-1 to Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium.

In a game where the focus was more on off-field matters, Victory opened the scoring in the 13th minute after Jordan Elsey fouled Jason Geria in the box – the defender running onto a Kosta Barbarouses through ball. Besart Berisha converted the spot kick for his sixth of the season.

Adelaide almost replied immediately after Daniel Georgievski conceded a free-kick, but Craig Goodwin’s shot from the impossible angle was denied by a scrambling Danny Vukovic.

Victory doubled their advantage on the half hour mark via an Oliver Bozanic free kick, which curled just out of reac of Reds’ goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic.

The second-half saw Adelaide work their way forward on multiple occasions but they were still unable to breach the Victory defence. It was a tight contest in the midfield with neither side able to gain ascendancy.

The Reds earned a late consolation goal via the penalty spot after a clumsy challenge from Barbarouses, with Carrusca converting from 12-yards out.

Vicory are now unbeaten at Etihad Stadium in nine matches and top of the table.
